Alier Receives EU Decarbonization Funding for New Industrial Facility

Alier has been selected to receive funding under the second call of Line 4 of Spain’s PERTE for Industrial Decarbonization, a program designed to support new, highly efficient, fully decarbonized manufacturing facilities in energy-intensive sectors. The call is part of Component 31 (RePowerEU) of Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed through European Next Generation funds.

Alier’s project, titled “New highly efficient facilities to boost industrialized housing“, was one of only four lead projects selected nationwide, and the only one based in Catalonia alongside a project from Hinojosa Packaging in Girona. The project carries a financeable budget of 39 million euros and will receive a subsidy of 11.1 million euros.

Of particular note: among all projects submitted to this call, Alier’s was the highest-rated.

What This Recognition Means

Line 4 of the PERTE for Industrial Decarbonization is not designed to fund marginal efficiency improvements. It specifically targets new plants or production lines built from the ground up to integrate every necessary process without relying on fossil fuels. Being selected under this line and rated above every other applicant is a significant external validation of the technical and environmental design behind the project.

While the official announcement does not detail the project beyond its title, the focus on industrialized housing aligns closely with Alier’s ongoing work in gypsum board manufacturing for dry construction systems, an area where the company has been investing heavily in new, low-carbon production capacity.

A Broader Signal

This funding decision reflects a wider government priority: channeling Next Generation EU resources toward industrial projects that demonstrate genuine structural decarbonization, not incremental change. Receiving the top evaluation in a national call of this scale is a meaningful marker, both for the credibility of the underlying engineering and for what it signals about where Spain’s industrial decarbonization strategy is placing its confidence.

For Alier, this is not only a funding milestone. It is independent confirmation that the direction the company has taken, building new capacity around recycled materials and decarbonized industrial processes, is being recognized at a national level as a model worth backing.

Recognition in Context

But this recognition does not stand alone. In the framework of the closing ceremony of the NextGenerationEU funds, Alier was formally recognized by both the Government of Spain and the Generalitat de Catalunya for the responsible and effective use of different funding programs assigned to industrial transformation. From the PERTE for Circular Economy, which backs our beverage carton recycling process and PolyAl, to the PERTE for Industrial Decarbonization, which supports our new manufacturing facilities, the thread running through all of it is the same: using public investment to build an industrial model that does not depend on fossil fuels or virgin raw materials.
