Key insights from Marcelo Pereira’s talk at Global Gypsum 2025

At the 23rd Global Gypsum Conference in Amsterdam, Marcelo Pereira, CEO of Alier, took the stage to deliver a forward-looking presentation on the forces shaping the construction industry over the next 25 years.

His talk, “An analysis of global sustainability trends towards 2050 and impacts on plasterboard and additives manufacturers,” made one thing clear: the future of construction will be collaborative, data-driven, and shaped by values.

A changing world, and industry

From population growth and resource scarcity to urbanization and decarbonization, the global context is evolving rapidly. These changes bring urgency, but also opportunity.

Pereira pointed out that construction is expected to double by mid-century to accommodate nearly 10 billion people. This growth must be met with new models of development: modular, circular, and energy-efficient.

Dry construction will play a central role. According to projections shared during the talk, dry systems will make up nearly 70% of new buildings by 2050. Sustainability will no longer be a premium choice, it will be the standard.

The road to 2050: what will define success

Marcelo highlighted key trends that will shape how manufacturers and suppliers operate:

  • Circular and low-impact manufacturing at the core of industrial design
  • Green finance and low-risk capital for sustainable solutions
  • Women-led skill development on and off-site
  • Long-term partnerships rooted in ESG values

From vision to action

At Alier, these are not just projections — they are guiding principles. We are already investing in next-generation processes and infrastructure to reduce emissions, close resource loops, and create alliances that last. Because sustainability is about generating value. For clients, communities, and the planet.

A call to co-create

As Pereira concluded: “We know how to make sustainability profitable.” The industry’s transformation will require shared responsibility, joint innovation, and open collaboration across the value chain. We invite partners, clients, and allies to imagine new possibilities with us. Let’s build a better future together.
