Sludge Valorization from Alier’s production process through Anaerobic Digestion

Author/stephanie byttebier — 29 July 2025

The objective of this project is to design, build, and commission a treatment plant for the biological sludge generated at ALIER’s wastewater treatment plant. This will allow for the recovery of this waste from a material and energy perspective, reducing the amount of waste sent for composting. To this end, an anaerobic digestion plant will be built to produce biogas. In addition, auxiliary facilities will be built for sludge pretreatment and biogas desulfurization, so that it can be used to generate steam at ALIER’s production plant. These investments will reduce the environmental and economic impact of the waste produced by the company as a result of its industrial activity. They are innovative in that they increase environmental protection and reduce the environmental impact of ALIER’s activities.
