Alier joins the United Nations Global Compact
We continue to advance in our dedication to sustainability and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the actions outlined in our Sustainability Master Plan. We are pleased to announce our membership in the Global Compact, joining over 1,500 national companies that have already expressed their commitment to this initiative. This reinforces our commitment to aligning our business activities with the contribution to the development of Catalonia and the country.
What is the nature of the Global Compact?
The United Nations Global Compact leads the promotion of global corporate sustainability. With over two decades of experience and a global network spanning over 70 countries, including Spain, it has been one of the foremost national platforms since its inception. Its mission is to drive the adoption of the Ten Principles of the Global Compact and promote the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals into the corporate fabric. Additionally, it is the only entity authorized by the United Nations for this purpose.
What does this membership mean for Alier?
Our Environmental and Regulatory Manager, Isabel Vidal, has emphasized the importance of this membership in the Global Compact for the company: “Since 1948, at Alier, we have understood sustainability as part of our DNA, so joining the UN Global Compact is a natural and pivotal step to continue advancing our commitment. We are aware of the transformative role that companies play in achieving a better world through sustainable and respectful business models.”
“In this way, ‘Joining the UN Global Compact implies that at Alier, we commit to aligning our business strategy and operations with Ten Principles universally accepted in the areas of human rights, labor standards, environment, and anti-corruption, and taking actions in support of the United Nations’ goals currently embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).'”
With this action, we reaffirm our commitment to a sustainable business model that promotes economic growth, environmental protection, and social progress in our community. Our ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategy, outlined in our Sustainability Master Plan, guides our actions in three key areas:
First, our environmental pathway reflects our commitment to climate, circular economy, and resource optimization. Concurrently, our labor and social pathway seeks to promote personal and community development through initiatives such as the Alier Club and our Surprises Committee, driven by our human resources department.
Furthermore, our governance pathway ensures good governance and promotes involvement in sustainability and business impact throughout our value chain, including our suppliers. Additionally, we strive to maintain transparency in our triple bottom line derived from Alier’s activities.
In conclusion, with our adherence to the UN Global Compact, we strengthen our commitment to contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in areas such as health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, access to clean water and sanitation, affordable and sustainable energy, decent work and economic growth, innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities, and responsible production and consumption.
