WE DRIVE THE RECYCLING OF POLYETHYLENE AND ALUMINUM IN BEVERAGE CARTONS IN SPAIN TOGETHER WITH TETRA PAK
At Alier, we have committed to start recycling polyethylene and aluminum in 2023. An agreement we initiated in collaboration with Tetra Pak on July 1st and will be effective until the end of 2025, with the aim of promoting the recycling of polyethylene and aluminum from recycled beverage cartons in Spain.
A feasible commitment, thanks to our innovation efforts and cutting-edge technology, allowing us to recycle fiber obtained from beverage cartons in our facilities. This enables us to have our own mechanical recycling line for polyethylene and aluminum from the packaging. Transforming us into a pioneering integrated recycler, extending beyond 100% recycled paper, which we supply.
How have we achieved this? Through our recycling process, which transforms these waste materials into polyethylene and aluminum pellets, a secondary raw material that can be revalorized in other industries, thus promoting the circular economy, and contributing to SDG 17: partnerships for the goals.
To achieve this, we crush the waste, followed by a mechanical washing process that allows us to separate the different fractions of the waste. Subsequently, we process the plastic waste through the extruder machine, compacting it and resulting in polyethylene and aluminum pellets.
This pellet is an excellent 100% recycled raw material that reenters circulation with new uses in various applications, such as in the logistics or gardening industry, among others.
Today, we have successfully recycled approximately 1600 million beverage cartons! Our goal is to progressively increase and consolidate the recycling of polyethylene and aluminum from beverage cartons in Spain, aiming to reach over 15,000 tons recycled by 2025. This pioneering collaboration reflects our commitment to advancing the recycling of these materials in our country and reinforces our efforts as a BCORP and the Best Company in Catalonia 2023.
